project 677additions and alterations
brief The clients had wanted to open up the rear of the existing home to include a new kitchen and family. This new area was to open out to an covered outdoor entertaining area. The clients had drawn up some plans and had approached us for our input. solution Due to site orientation the drawings we were presented with did not relate well to the site. The large glass doors and lack of shade protection on the western elevation, would not protect the owners from the hot western summer afternoon sun. The outdoor area was re-orientated to provide much needed shade to the addition, whilst allowing light to penetrate the living areas. The roof line of the outdoor space reflected the roof of the original dwelling, this allowed for a higher ceiling for better circulation of air and a beautiful cathedral like feature. |
